DECA Updates - October & November 2023
by Gracie Vakiner, DECA Secretary
The CCHS DECA chapter has been very busy these past few weeks. We participated in events like trunk and treat at the Methodist Church, Trick or Treat for canned goods with NHS, and this past week had DECA Week. It was a lot of fun and a very enjoyable last couple of weeks.
Trunk & Treat at Methodist Church
This year the CCHS DECA chapter wanted to try something new and that was to participate in a local trunk or treat event. The Central City United Methodist Church let us participate in their event. The theme the DECA chapter chose was Hocus Pocus. This was an awesome event four our chapter to give back to our community. Brynn Ohlman, Senior, said, “I really enjoyed the fun environment of handing candy out to kids! It was fun to dress up and be a part of something that made people smile!”
Trick or Treat for Canned Goods with NHS
The CCHS DECA chapter partnered with CCHS National Honor Society to participate in trick or treat for canned goods. This event required participants to go to certain parts of the community and trick or treat for canned goods. These donations went to the Central Nebraska Community Action Partnership to help those in need. Maddie Chrisman, Junior, said, “I really enjoyed getting to do something that is going to benefit others while having fun in the process. We got to dress up and go house to house, even though it was a bit chilly. You also get to be more aware of who is in your community and meet different people.”
DECA Week
The week of November 6-10 was DECA week for the CCHS DECA chapter. On Monday, the CCHS DECA officer team and advisor, Mrs. McPhillips, hid DECA diamonds. If a student that wasn’t in DECA found it, they got a candy prize. Tuesday was Staff Appreciation Day, so DECA members brought treats to put in the staff workroom to thank the staff for all they do. On Wednesday, the DECA chapter wore their new DECA gear. On Thursday, DECA members handed out Airhead candies with a paper attached that said “Don’t be an Airhead - Join DECA!” On Friday, DECA members dressed for success in nice business attire. This week was so awesome! It got students in our school more interested in DECA.
